1,000 Book Club

Situated in the lobby of Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School, the purpose of the 1,000 Book Club is simple: To challenge ALL students to read at least 1,000 books before they finish elementary school. To learn how it works, watch the video or review the step-by-step directions below.

Checking Out a Bag of Books

  1. Enter through the main doors of Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School, walk into the lobby, and approach the 1,000 Book Club area.

  2. Look at all of the bags and choose which one you'd like to take home. Make sure you take a sneak peek inside to make sure they're books you're interested in.

  3. An adult will fill out your form. If you are a first-time borrower, you will take a new form. If you've borrowed before, you will find your sheet in the binder, which is organized alphabetically by last name. Adults fill out all the information on the top of the form.

  4. Check the bag that you are borrowing to see the number on the front and write that day's date next to that bag number on your form. Then find the tab for your last name and put your paper inside.

  5. Take home that wonderful bag full of reading fun and enjoy all 10 books!

If a book should be damaged or missing from your bag select one of the slips on top of the book return cabinet, write the bag number, check off whether it is a damaged book or a missing book, and then fill in the book's title. All 10 titles for your bag are on a list inside each bag. Once you have filled in the slip, stick it inside that bag and then put the whole bag inside the book return cabinet.

Returning a Bag of Books

  1. Once you have finished your 10 books, go back through the main doors at Broadalbin-Perth Elementary School and approach the 1,000 Book Club area.

  2. Your adult will find your form, which is organized in the binder alphabetically by last name. Then, you will check off that you returned that bag number.

  3. Next, insert the whole entire bag into the 1,000 Book Club return bin. If the bag happens to have books that are a little bit too large for the opening, just use the eye hook on the front to open the door and put the bag inside.

  4. Then, make your way back over to choose your next bag to borrow and take home. Again, have your adult see the number on the front of your bag, find it on your form, write that day's date next to that number, and you are well on your way to enjoying some more wonderful stories.

Damaged or Missing Books

If a book is damaged or missing from your bag, select one of the slips on top of the book return cabinet, write the bag number, check off whether it is a damaged book or a missing book, and then fill in the book's title. All 10 titles for your bag are on a list inside each bag. Once you have filled in the slip, stick it inside that bag and then put the whole bag inside the book return cabinet.
